I don’t exactly know when I became interested in going to the mission field. I do remember that as a child, I enjoyed watching a video my parents made of their mission trip to Guatemala back in 1992. Something in the video made me interested in going there myself and in my last year of high school at PRC the opportunity presented itself. During that trip, I recognized that working in the mission field was what I felt called to do.
During the following years, while getting my nursing degree, I was able to go on two more short term trips to Guatemala and Peru. This solidified my desire to serve God abroad. I started researching different mission organizations that were healthcare focused but nothing seemed to fit right at that time. Moreover, I began to realize that I needed an even broader range of skills in order to work in the mission field so I applied and was accepted to a Nurse Practitioner program in Ontario which I completed in December 2012. With a few additional courses I was also able to complete my Masters of Nursing in April 2013.
I spent 8month of 2013 living in a remote area in Africa working at a clinic there that mentors and equips the local people to provide medical care from a Biblical perspective. It was a great experience where I learned about the life of the local people there, their culture and faith, and to live with limited resources.
On my return to Canada in 2014 J and I were married and in October returned to Africa where I work in the medical field and J works in IT. As we live our life here we continue to grow and learn about the local people and culture as well as try to be a witness to them about the saving grace of Christ.
